L.L. Bean Worthy Winter Shows Up In Wichita

February 13, 2012 | Subjects: Fashion, Wichita

Yesterday evening, what looked like a real showing of winter finally graced Wichita. As I was leaving my friends loft after watching the Grammys, I witnessed a lovely snow fall that had already accumulated quite a bit. It was nice to see it, as it acted like bleach to wash the memory-stain of that atrocious Nicki Minaj performance I had just witnessed moments earlier, (she could have just done Super Bass).

In my opinion this is the first real bit of snow we’ve seen in Wichita this season, and by evidence of the driving I saw this morning, I think a few others would agree. It has been unseasonably warm here, as it has been in other parts of the country, so it is nice to get some much needed precipitation. Though it wasn’t a blizzard, it did give me an excuse to bust out my new Waxed Canvas Maine Hunting Shoes I received last week from L.L. Bean Signature. I had purchased a pair of traditional Bean Boots, but upon their arrival noticed they were too large. I sent them, back in exchange for the aforementioned pair and couldn’t be happier.

Love Is a Comfortable Pair of Jeans.

February 13, 2012 | Subjects: Fashion, Vintage

Everyone knows what tomorrow is. Valentines Day. Whoopteefreakindoo! Okay, that may be a bit trite on my part as I think the cynicism of the holiday almost equals that of the excitement of it, depending on the year. I don’t have a technical Valentine this year, but I wanted to talk about something I shallowly love and would completely bummed about if I were to ever lose them. My pair of tattered Levi’s 527s.

I’m So Sorry…

February 13, 2012 | Subjects: Uncategorized

Yeah. It’s a Morrissey reference, which I will not apologize for.

So it hasn’t been quite a year since I last posted, but it has been quite a year. I won’t make any excuses as to why I haven’t been updating, other than that of my own comatose inspiration and laziness. But I’m going to be making a more concerted effort to do more. I never have had lofty goals to be a trendsetter or someone to be revered in the blogosphere, but what good is this thing if I don’t use it. Expect more updates to come in the next few hours and days to come. Thank you if you still read this.

Aaron Michael: Brooklyn By Way of Wichita.

April 14, 2011 | Subjects: Fashion

There is a lot to love about Wichita and inspire you. There is also a lot to inspire you to take your own personal tastes and sentiment to a larger audience. That would be the case for friend and former Wichitan Aaron Michael. Aaron Michael is a fashion designer that has made Brooklyn, NY his residence for some time now, and though I miss the hell out of the guy, it’s great to see his dreams and aspirations being achieved.

Michael is gaining momentum having been featured in New York Magazine this past winter for his work with Dunderon. He is also showing up in select retailers and boutiques from NYC to Japan. He has recently dropped his new spring collection of ties, bow ties and braces to adorn the average joe, to make them a lot more than average. Cheers Aaron.

My Top 10 Punk Logos

March 8, 2011 | Subjects: Culture, Design, Music

I was sitting with my buddy Mike the other day watching the Lemmy documentary, and forgot how much I love Motörhead’s logo. Hell I think it along with other logos growing up is what made me fall in love with graphic design. There was and is something about black and white icon’s drawn on notebooks, punk fliers and the top of my skateboard that has always made me stop and stare. Half the time there wasn’t a need for much typography for you to be impacted or know what you were looking at, or that it was different.

Below is just a smattering of the ones I have always loved and some I have loved for only a little bit.

Give Up The Ghost

February 10, 2011 | Subjects: Culture, Music

I turned 30 a couple weeks back, and there was a little invite I did that talked about the mourning of my youth. Though I don’t feel that much older, it made think about some of the things I cherished most about my 20′s and how long ago it all seems. One big thing that remember about my 20′s is that I feel into a deeper love with hardcore, and a band that really helped fan those flames was American Nightmare/American Nothing/Give Up The Ghost.

Justified

February 9, 2011 | Subjects: Culture, Fashion

Firstly, I know it’s been awhile since I posted last. No real excuse, other than I am lazy. But what good is this thing if I don’t use it. So, my apologies.

I am quite excited for the fact that one of my favorite shows is back tonight for another season though. Justified first caught my eye when the most recent season of Sons Of Anarchy was coming to an end last year and it wasn’t just the explosions, meth-ridden rednecks, and southern drawl that caught my eyes and ears. I think it had to be the fact that costume designer Ane Crabtree made Timothy Olyphant’s character Raylan Givens look simply bad ass.
